One of the most important aspects of the church is the Musical aspect of the church life. This aspect includes many different types of music. One of the most important aspects of the church music is the spiritual aspect.

The other styles of music in the church are organized into three different categories : - Hymns,
- Traditional gospel songs
- Inspirational songs.

The earliest set of melodious songs that came out of the church have commonly been referred to as spiritual songs. The spiritual songs are at the root of all Gospel songs and hymns.

Another very important component of the church songs is the spontaneity of the roaming notes and polyrhythmic beats. The spontaneity in both of these elements is strongly evidenced in the church.

The Gospel songs had not been developed at all till about the period of the 1950′s and right through till 1960′s. But soon the songs such as “This Little Light of Mine” and “Jesus is on the Mainline” became the next generation of the Gospel songs.

A very important part of the worship service in the church is the Gospel. The gospel integrates interesting sounds from many forms of the secular music & most people are fascinated by gospel music lyrics. Some of the forms imbibed are jazz, hip-hop, rhythm and blues and blues.

A majority of the gospel songs follow a call-and-response pattern. This pattern follows a schematic where one vocalist leads and the church responds through some singing. One of the gospel songs that follows this pattern of call-and-response pattern is “Jesus is on the Mainline”.
